Sam and Max: Save the World Review

I should just come out being honest, I'm very much impartial to loving Sam and Max. The lovable duo of Sam and Max have led their brand to being one of the most enduring and humorous cartoons in ages. After many comics, TV shows, and even movies, Sam and Max return to gaming.

This could strike fear into the hearts of fans everywhere. Any decent Sam and Max game has been done by Lucasarts. Who perfected adventure gaming in the early 90's. Luckily, many Lucasarts employees migrated over to Save the World's developer, Telltale. So many of the beloved people who worked on the great series before, moved on to Telltale when Lucasarts lost the license in 2005.

Politics aside. Save the World is a surprisingly solid and fun game. Being an adventure game means the pace is at near a snails pace compared to games like Killzone 2 or Call of Duty 4; but those who are willing to give it a go will find pleasant (and slightly demented) humour, clever writing, and fun exploitative gameplay.

Certainly, running around searching for clues is fun. It's using your brain to figure out a situation that is truly engaging and entertaining. Take for instance, a moment where you need to knock a child actor out but he's rapid fast. By placing false evidence, you're able to have him trip an alarm and knock him out (don't ask)

The Dialogue is witty, the gameplay is solid and inventive (If at the very least, retro), and the presentation is excellent. For an XBLA game (and one at 1,600 points or $20) it provides people who are fans of Sam and Max the ability to revisit a great treasure of characters. For those new, well, you can soon see why you need to be a fan.

10/10
