I'm the Infamous one

Infamous. Have you heard of it yet?

It's the PS3 exclusive Open-world Superhero game that is primed to take the struggling console by storm.

It's something different then even I'm used to. It's been 2004 since we last saw a decent open world game featuring men in capes. The greatest example is of course Spiderman 2. What was supposed to be a quick cash in for the blockbuster film; turned into a great game in it's own right. What was once a genre for mobsters and criminals soon became a much broader genre.

Five years have passed. A new generation has been ushered in, and many gamers are now aching for the next great Open world game, one that lets you run around in a city with your powers at your disposal.

I recently tried Infamous through it's PSN demo. My expectations were high. I've seen video reviews and features, all of which painted a picture of a world that you had an astounding level of effect on. As I played through the four missions, I came to realize my expectations were warranted, and rewarded.

Lightning flickers between main character Cole and electrical sources. Walk on a metal floor and electricity surges through the floor. That's just indirectly a part of your presence. Directly, you have the choice to pull the trigger on many events that morally affect your standing within the game. I felt like I didn't know which choice was which; which at first annoyed me, but now I realize that not knowing what will become of my actions is reality. Getting beyond this gaming staple is something hard to overcome but it was always doable, and Infamous achieved what few games do. This level of morality ranks up there with Fallout 3 and Fable 2 in terms of subtlety.

I could go on forever about the gameplay. Evil and Good feel distinctively different in terms of Gameplay. Evil plays like a destructive wrecking ball, Good plays like your mom with soap in her hand. Gross, soap in the mouth is not acceptable punishment! Blowing up cars and blowing dozens of people away with a single move feels all so fulfilling, but taking the time to restrain people, feels contempt and maybe even nice.

Audio is incredibly epic and suiting. The graphics all feel somewhat bland, but this is an open world game. So if you're looking for a unique world with every level, then this isn't your game. But what they do show is unique and visually charismatic. The cut scenes, done in a comic book style, are incredibly cool.

I'm going to stop talking now. Download the demo, or even better, Buy the game when it comes out this Tuesday, May 26th.

+Great Gameplay
+Great technical advances for an Open-world game
+Great Cut scenes
-Visually bland at times

Score (Out of 10): 9
